Dead Poets Society & Ethan Hawke

Hawke Summer

The Ms. Wonderful Film Club Podcast is new —

and on Spotify, Apple, and Substack, too!

(Do you like that rhyme? Woah!)

Imagine if the poets of old time-traveled to the present day and had to navigate all this technology—these screens, these sounds! What would they be saying, doing, thinking, writing about?

Would they retreat to the forest, perhaps? Walk barefoot down the street in rumpled slacks with unshaven beards? Would they have secret meetings to plan rebellions?

I really don’t know, but we on the Ms. Wonderful Film Podcast are talking about why we chose Ethan Hawke to examine this summer for his artistry, and favorite poems, and the politics of education, and even parenting—all inspired by the movie Dead Poets Society.

Hawke Summer is merging literature and filmmaking by highlighting Ethan Hawke from Dead Poets Society, Hamlet, Great Expectations, and Wildcat.

Film is a doorway to improving relationships and fostering self-love by cultivating compassion, connection, understanding, and having fun. You don’t always have to watch or have seen the film to consider the themes presented.
